@poppab1325, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A "Carriage Jam" error on the HP OfficeJet 3830 even when no paper is stuck usually indicates an issue with the carriage movement, sensors, or rollers. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve it:

Step 1: Check for Obstructions

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Open the cartridge access door and check if any paper scraps or foreign objects are inside.

Manually move the carriage left and right to see if it moves freely.

Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges properly.

Step 2: Reset the Printer

Disconnect the power cord while the printer is still on.

Wait for 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord.

Turn the printer on and check if the error is resolved.

Step 3: Clean the Carriage Path

Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access area.

Check the paper path for any obstructions.

Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Step 4: Ensure the Carriage Moves Freely

If the carriage is stuck, gently move it to the center of the printer.

Remove and reinstall the cartridges, then check for movement.

Close the printer and restart it.

Step 5: Update Firmware

If the issue persists, try updating the firmware via HP Smart or HP Support Assistant.

Step 6: Perform a Hard Reset

With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall.

Wait 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in.

Power on the printer and check if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
