I have an A4 paper (210x297 mm) with a grid of squares (70x37 mm) covering the entire page. When I scan the page and print the result, the grid is not centered on the page and the squares have become smaller (68x37mm). Why?

@hans_peter2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Size Issues with Scanned and Printed Documents!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

There are a few reasons why the scanned and printed output might come out smaller or misaligned compared to the original document. Here are some potential solutions:

Check Scan Settings: Ensure that the scan resolution and size settings are correct. Verify that the scan settings are set to A4 size (210x297 mm) and that there are no settings that scale down the document.

Select Correct Scan Destination: When choosing the scan destination, ensure it is set to a specific location such as printer storage, USB drive, home folder, network folder, HPSmartStream folder, or email, and that it doesn't alter the document size.

Review Quicksets: Quicksets can affect how a document is scanned and printed. Verify that the correct quickset is selected and that it doesn't inadvertently change the document dimensions. Modify or create a new quickset if necessary.

  • To modify the quickset, tap the edit icon and select the appropriate size settings.

Calibration and Scanner Preferences:

  • Calibrate Scanner: Occasionally, the scanner might need re-calibration to ensure accurate scanning sizes. Perform a calibration if your scanner allows.
  • Load Delay: Adjust the load delay to prevent any movement of the original document during scanning.
  • Scan Mode Configuration: Ensure you select “scan all pages, then send to destination” to avoid any inconsistencies during scanning multiple pages.

Process Diagnostic Prints: Conduct a diagnostic test print to verify if there are any issues with alignment or size due to printer settings.

Adjust Settings:

  • Ensure the scan resolution is set properly (recommended settings are 200, 300, 600, or 1200 dpi depending on the quality needed).
  • Verify that the positioning and output size are set to automatic or as required for A4 paper.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

HI zoey7886!  I will try to follow your discription but want to change the language  of my HP Smart app first.  How do I do that?

HP Recommended

@hans_peter2, You can change the language of the HP Smart app by following these steps:

Open the HP Smart app
Launch the HP Smart app on your device.

Navigate to Language Settings
Look for the settings or options menu within the app. This is usually represented by a gear icon or three vertical dots.

Select Your Preferred Language
In the settings menu, find the language option and choose your preferred language from the list of available languages.

If you are still facing difficulties changing the language within the app, you may need to change the system language on your device:

Changing the System Language on Your Device

For Android Devices:

Open Settings
Go to the settings menu on your Android device.

Select Languages and Input
Tap on the 'System' or 'General Management' option, then select 'Languages and input.'

Choose Your Language
Tap 'Language' and select your preferred language from the list.

The HP Smart app should now display your selected language.

For iOS Devices:

Open Settings
Go to the settings menu on your iOS device.

Select General
Tap the 'General' option.

Choose Language and Region
Tap 'Language & Region,' then select your preferred language.

The HP Smart app should now display your selected language.

For Mac:

Open System Preferences
Go to System Preferences on your Mac.

Click Language & Region
Select the 'Language & Region' option.

Add or Select Language
Click the '+' button to add a new language or drag your preferred language to the top of the list.

The HP Smart app should now display your selected language.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

First of all, thank you zoey7886  for guiding me to change the language on the HP Smart app. The only way to  do it was to change language of the entire operating system. I thought it would help me better follow your description. However, it didn't help me much.  The terms you use don't exist or I couldn't find them in my app. So I've given up trying to get the Wrong size after scanning/printing sorted out.

This is the second time I've failed at a maneuver that was as easy and correct as possible to perform with the predecessor. I think it was called HP Scan and capture. The first time I gave up was in my post Change destination for scanned file.

Now it's time again and I'm quite disappointed.

Kind regards

/hans peter
