hp officejet 3830

I have a HP officejet3830 all in one, when I print a page everything comes out fine. But if I copy that same page, weather on the glass or through the auto feeder, the copied page comes out off center by about 1/2", cuttin off a portion of the copy. I've tried the alienment it's ok, print test page ok. I checked the paper tray everything looks ok, agian it only happens when you copy a page.

@MNBVC1,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while making a copy from the printer. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Does that Scanner bulb light up?

Does the scanner bar move when you open the lid & press the copy button?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

If the copy comes out fine, then I would suggest you could try to update the printer firmware, if available. If your printer connected wireless, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website. You might need a Windows PC to run the firmware.

Alternatively, you can go through the support document for - HP Printers - Resolving Copy Problems

If the cop comes out bad, then I would suggest this could be a possible hardware failure with the printer.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

No changes made to printer, light comes on and moves. Tried hard restart still same problem. I did a scan to the computer and it looks fine only the copy has a issue. I can print from the computer and I get a full page, when I copy there is 1/2" on the side missing.

Hate to say it but the same copy problem came back. If I scan a page to a computor file, then print from the file I get all the text. But If I just copy a page the copy comes out missing 1In.  of text the whole page along the side. No changes where made to printer, hard start was tried.

HP support saved the day. Tryed the hard reset, no help. Called HP support and while trouble shooting the problem, she had me reload the paper and a size and paper option came up on the printer screen. Was set on executive , plain paper, reset to letter, plain paper and all is good. Don't how it got changed but it is set right now. Thanks for your help.
