Hi @GMC102,
Welcome to the HP support community.
The "too much paper loaded" alarm on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479dw typically indicates that the paper tray is overloaded or not adjusted properly. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Steps to Resolve the Paper Overload Alarm:
Turn Off the Printer:
Start by turning off the printer using the power button.
Remove the Excess Paper:
Open Tray 2 and carefully remove any excess paper. Ensure that you do not exceed the tray's capacity, which is generally around 250 sheets for standard office paper.
Straighten the stack of paper if needed to ensure it is aligned properly.
Adjust the Paper Guides:
After removing excess paper, adjust the paper guides to fit snugly against the paper. The guides should not be too tight or too loose.
Misadjusted guides can cause the alarm as well.
Reload the Paper:
Reload the tray with the appropriate amount of paper, making sure the stack height is below the maximum fill line.
Reinstall the Tray:
Push Tray 2 back into the printer until it locks into place securely.
Turn On the Printer:
Power on the printer and check the control panel to ensure the alarm is cleared.
Update Printer Firmware (Optional):
Ensure your printer's firmware is updated to the latest version, which can sometimes resolve persistent issues. You can download the firmware from the HP Support Page.
Check for Printer Notifications:
Verify if your printer's control panel has any additional instructions or notifications.
If the issue persists after following these steps, consider performing a power reset by unplugging the printer for a minute and then plugging it back in.
