Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,
I have a Samsung CLX 3185N color laser printer, of which I have just changed all the ink cartridges.
After 1 week of use, the printer no longer lights up when I switch it on (the lights and screen remain off, the motor doesn't start...).
I've changed the power cable and that doesn't change anything.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to diagnose the problem?

Hi @PFV1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it must be to have your Samsung CLX 3185N suddenly stop powering on, especially after replacing all the ink cartridges and using it for a week without issues. Let’s try to troubleshoot the problem and see what might be causing it.

Possible Causes:

  • Power supply failure (internal or external)
  • Issue with the internal hardware (such as the power board or fuse)

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check the Basics

  • Since you've already tried a different power cable, also test a different power outlet to rule out any electrical issues.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet, avoiding power strips or surge protectors.

2. Perform a Power Reset

  • Unplug the printer completely from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 5 minutes to allow any residual charge to drain.
  • Hold the Power button for about 30 seconds while the printer is unplugged.
  • Plug the printer back in and try turning it on again.

3. Check for Any Signs of Life

  • When you plug in the printer, listen for any faint clicking or buzzing sounds—this could indicate a power supply issue.
  • If you see even a brief flash of light or the printer attempting to start, there may be a loose connection inside.

5. Check for Firmware or Hardware Failures

  • If the printer had a recent firmware update, it might have triggered a failure, though this is less likely for a power issue.
  • If there were any power surges or outages recently, the internal power board could be damaged.

If the printer remains completely unresponsive after these steps, the issue is likely with the internal power supply unit. You may need to contact HP support or consider repair options. Let me know if any of these steps helped, and I’ll be happy to assist furthe

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

thank you for your advice.

I performed the operations indicated in 1, 2, 3 (there is no sound, light... when I try to turn it back on) and 5 (the printer has not been updated), and the printer doesn't start.

Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you

Thank you for your response, @PFV1

Since the printer remains completely unresponsive with no signs of life, it's likely a power supply or internal hardware failure. Here are some additional steps to further diagnose the issue:

Check for a Blown Fuse in the Power Supply

  • Many printers have an internal fuse that can blow if there was a power surge.
  • If you’re comfortable opening the printer, check the power supply board for a small glass or ceramic fuse.
  • If the fuse is blown, replacing it may fix the issue.

Inspect the Power Supply Board

  • If you have a multimeter, test the output voltage of the power supply board.
  • If the board is not delivering any voltage, it may need to be replaced.

Look for Burnt Components

  • Carefully inspect the power supply board for any burnt marks, swollen capacitors, or damaged components.
  • If any components appear damaged, the power supply board may need to be repaired or replaced.

Try a Different Power Supply (If Possible)

  • If you have access to another working Samsung CLX 3185N power supply, swapping it out could help confirm if the issue is with the power unit.

I hope this helps!
