Hi, 

as in the subject: can I use a K404 toner in a printer that officially expects a K406 or a K407, or viceversa? Exteriorly, all these toners look the same.. (Respective printers are  XPress C430, CLP-365 and CLP-320).

No, those are not interchangeable.

 

A K404 toner cartridge can only be used by the C430 printer from your list, as well as the SL-C480 printer:

K407 can be used with the CLP-320 model only:

K406 can be used with the CLP-365 printer:
