Microsoft Windows 11

I have recently purchase d a Microsoft Surface with a Snapdragon processor, but can't get any driver to allow me to print from this to my Samsung M2070W.  Is anyone able to advise how I can print from this laptop to the printer please?

Hi @Jonas-UK ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You’ve got a new Microsoft Surface with a Snapdragon processor (ARM-based, not Intel/AMD), and your Samsung Xpress SL-M2070W printer just won’t play nice with it.

Your Surface with the Snapdragon processor runs Windows 11 on ARM64, which cannot use traditional x86/x64 printer drivers unless the manufacturer has specifically released an ARM64 version.

Unfortunately, the current drivers for the Samsung SL-M2070W listed on the HP support page are only for x86 and x64 systems, not ARM64. That’s why the installation fails or the printer doesn’t respond.

1. Use Windows Built-in Generic Driver

Try adding the printer manually with a universal or generic driver:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  • Click Add device, then wait — if your printer isn’t detected, select “Add manually”
  • Choose:
“Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname”
Use your printer’s IP (you can get this from the printer’s menu or configuration printout)

Then, on the driver screen:

  • Click Windows Update (wait a few minutes)
  • Try using:
    • Samsung Universal Print Driver (if listed)
    • Or Generic/Text Only (very basic, may work for text)
    • Or select HP as the manufacturer and try a basic HP PCL3 driver

Result will vary — this won’t enable scanning and advanced features, but may allow basic printing.

2. Use a Print Server or Share from Another PC

If you have another PC (Windows 10 or x64), you can:

  • Install the printer normally on that PC
  • Share it over the network
  • From your Surface, connect to the shared printer (right-click > Connect)

This offloads the print job to the compatible PC.

3. Use HP Smart App (for Scanning)

Install the HP Smart app: HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support
It may allow at least scanning from your printer, even if printing fails, depending on network visibility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
