Samsung Xpress SL-C1860FW Color Laser Multifunction Printer

I am trying to connect my Samsung printer via Wi-Direct but fail to do so. It is recognized fine by Samsung Mobile Print App when I connect via Ethernet to my router, but is not recognizable via Wi-Fi, probably because my router is too new, the WiFi network is on WPA3 encryption that printer most likely doesn't support. So I want to connect via Wi-Fi direct.

This is the error when I tap the phone to the NFC tag on the printer and initiate connection:

Sometimes it goes further

But in the end it fails anyway

I have Samsung Mobile Print 4.08.041 and Samsung Print Service Plugin 3.10.240620 installed.

In this Wi-Fi Direct guide I see that HP Smart App should be installed, but I was thinking this applies to HP printers only, and Samsung printers are managed by Samsung Mobile App. Is it?

Could you please suggest how to resolve the error?

P.S. I also checked this article https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06634545 but it is not very applicable to me, and I don't have WPS button on my printer either.

Hi @XPerfect,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having a tough time connecting your Samsung printer via Wi-Fi Direct. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Printer's Wi-Fi Direct Settings: Make sure that Wi-Fi Direct is enabled on your printer. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings menu.

NFC Settings: Ensure that NFC is enabled on your Android device. You can check this in your device’s settings under “Connections” or “Network & internet.”

Forget Network: If your phone has previously connected to the printer or any Wi-Fi networks, try forgetting those networks in your Wi-Fi settings. This can sometimes resolve connection conflicts.

Clear Cache: Clear the cache of the Samsung Mobile Print app. Go to Settings > Apps > Samsung Mobile Print > Storage > Clear Cache.

Reboot Devices: Restart both your printer and your Android device. Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.

Manual Connection: If the NFC method isn't working, try connecting manually:

  • Go to the printer's Wi-Fi Direct settings to find its network name (SSID).
  • On your Android device, go to Wi-Fi settings and look for the printer's Wi-Fi Direct SSID.
  • Connect to it directly by entering any required password (usually found in the printer’s manual or settings).

Firmware Update: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes updates can resolve connectivity issues.

Reset Network Settings: If none of the above works, consider resetting the network settings on your Android device. This can be done in Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks, suddenly I was able to connect to the printer via manual way, which wasn't the case before. Maybe cache clearing helped, indeed.
