@Wolfkain sorry for the time to respond. Been a bit busy.

I have gatekeeper switched on (which I would advise, there is a lot of malware out there, and it is a useful safety feature + you run antivirus on your mac - right? 😉

Here is how I installed my drivers:

I downloaded this, and installed it.

Like you I received the "broken bundle" messages.

I was able to fix the individual "security" messages as per my original post.

At some point in the last month there was a software update for the printer (I *think* through the mac updater) which sent me a newer version of the installer

Installing it caused the same messages all over again, however I was able to permit them all to work from System Preferences

I hope this helps you

Hi Lukewest,

This is exactly what, I have done. I tried with Gatekeeper off, and I did allow the installation to run, but unfortunately, I don't get a prompt to allow the BasicOptionPDE.bundle every time I hit print. Nothing pops up at the Security Tab.

I guess, this is because BasicOptionPDE is not an app, but rather a print options plugin which is not properly signed.

So, until HP properly sign their drivers, we are sticked with the error message.

What I found weird though, is that Samsung print options are still available under the "Printer Options" tab, even with this error!

Rather than try to remember, I have installed this on a macmini which has a pretty vanilla version of Catalina.

Short version:

Start terminal and run this command which will change the extended attributes and make it work with no complaints. It is a brutal fix, but the only one I could work out. (without deleting it - which I *really* don't like)

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Printers/Samsung/UPD/PDEs/BasicOptionPDE.bundle

Long version:

Notes on the download

  1. Download as above
  2. Unpack the zip
  3. Expand the PrinterDriver > MAC_Installer > MAC_Printer
  4. Run the Printer Driver.pkg

Notes on the installation

  1. Allow the installer to access "downloads"
  2. Get the message "installerApps" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified
  3. Open System Preferences, security & privacy tab, and unlock
  4. Click cancel on the install, and the "installerApps" was blocked... appears at the bottom of the systems preferences panel. Click "open anyway"
  5. In the installer window, the installation was successful
  6. Get the "Allow the installer to access Downloads" message again.

Notes on Adding a printer:

  1. System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
  2. Click + to add a printer
  3. Pick the Samsung from the Bonjour list
  4. Change Use from "Airprint" to "Samsung M2020 Series"
  5. Click Add
  6. You should see a green blob by the "Idle state under the printer name
  7. Go back to the Security & Privacy area of System preferences
  8. Try to print something using the Apple dialogue - not the e.g. chrome one.
    1. Get the "BasicOptionPDE.bundle" is damaged message. Click OK
    2. Click print the page
    3. Get the "prefilter" can't be opened message because it may be damaged. Click OK
    4. In the Sys Prefs see that the "Prefilter" can now be "allowed anyway". Allow it
    5. Get the "rastertosec" can't be opened because it may be damaged message. Click OK
    6. In the Sys Prefs see that the "rsatertosec" can now be "allowed anyway". Allow it
    7. No prints appear (yet)
    8. TAKE 2. Try to print the page again, through the normal apple interface
    9. Get the "BasicOptionPDE.bundle" is damaged message. Click OK
    10. Click print the page
    11. Get the "prefilter" can't be opened because Apple cant check it for malicious software message. Click OK
    12. Get the "rastertosec" can't be opened because Apple cant check it for malicious software message. Click OK
    13. Now you get a print
    14. Restart
  9. Update the software
    1. A software update message will appear to u[date the printer software to version 2.6
    2. Here we go again....
    3. Get the "BasicOptionPDE.bundle" is damaged message. Click OK
    4. Click print the page
    5. Get a print
    6. Restart
  10. The  blasted bundle *still* complains, so I fixed it rather brutally
    1. In a terminal, force its attributes by doing this.... = end of problem.
    2. sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Printers/Samsung/UPD/PDEs/BasicOptionPDE.bundle
  11.

I used this fix and it worked - thank you thank you, been driving me nuts since I updated on Friday. My scanner still pops up with error message 'Samsung scanner' cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified' though - do you have a fix for this by chance??

Hey man, You have done some serious troubleshooting here.

I tried the command and it WORKS!

Thank you big time for your effort!

@Bogdan5, can you please mark Lukewest's post as the accepted solution?

I have tried your solution, but I am struggling with the DO not use Air Print.   There is no name of a printer listed below air print.

Any advice on what is happening here or what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

I was able to fix the problem by downloading appropriate printer driver for MacOS 10.15 Catalina at:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/printers

At that point, per other user comments, I was able to install a second copy of my printer, and using the drop down menu, selected the name of the printer, and NOT the AirPrint option.  Now I have two copies of of the printer in my system preferences, and use the "Printer name 2" copy.

Hope this helps!

I spent 2 hours todays since resent upgrade to Catalina 10.15.4 and drivers 3.91 (the most recent ones available today, 26 March 2020). AirPrint or Samsung/HP drivers don't work.

I had high hopes for sudo matter -rd ...../Filters/* and ..../PDEs/* but that didn't help either.

I've been able to print one page if I go with absolutely default settings, but I change anything (number of pages from PDF, two sided printing) then all of that makes the job hang in 'Looking for printer'. And no, it's not a network thing. VM with Windows 10 has no problem accessing that same printer and printing normally.

I reinstalled the new driver twice, restarting the system. There are no monies under Security and Privacy.

I know that Apple has been changing much in Catalina but this is ridiculous that HP is not capable of writing working drivers for MacOS.

No you didn't... I mean, yes, it worked once but then after that if I try and print all I get is a line of Wing Dings (or similar) on multiple pages. I have to say, this has been a problem for over two years for me! I will never buy a samsung or HP printer again. Ever! I do not need to have so many hours of my life consumed by this **bleep**. FFS

I don't know if that helps, but that's my thought about the problem (tested with the C2680, I still have the C460):

Only after I've got the Samsung Printer Software Uninstaller to remove completely all old drivers, I was able to successfully install the current drivers (March 2020).

In the "Add printer" dialog I did select only once the C2680 under "Select software" (not AirPrint). After that only ONE C2680 appears in the print dialog, with its correct own image and no longer with the generic Mac OS printer icon.
