Typically there is only one standard for phones, but there are exceptions
1. A jack to connect a handset will be much smaller than the standard phone jack
2. There are some 6 position cables out there that may not fit all machines
3. Sometimes people try to plug into the network jack on the printer.
Check around the printer to see if there is another jack to plug into.
