Hi @dean47

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet 5258 scanner is squeaking, it could be due to minor issues like dirt buildup, lack of lubrication, or even misaligned parts.

Here's what you can do to troubleshoot:

1. Check for Obstructions

  • Open the scanner lid and inspect the scanner bed and surrounding areas. Dust, debris, or small objects might be interfering with the scanner mechanism.

2. Clean the Scanner Glass and Rollers

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner (not sprayed directly onto the glass) to clean the scanner bed.
  • If you can access the rollers, gently clean them as well with a damp, lint-free cloth.

3. Run the Scanner Without a Document

  • Open the scanner lid and start a scan without placing any paper on the glass. If the noise persists, it may indicate an internal mechanical issue.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer. https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

5. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about a minute before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes recalibrate the scanner.
