HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I keep getting the notice that the document feeder could not pick up the original, load the original nd try again.

Well, the feeder does pick up and process the original ok but it will simply not issue a copy of that original whist the Office Jetpro6830prints in fine detail from the bottom document feeder. I see this a known issue. Any help appreciated. I have cleaned the rollers and have latest software installed.

Hi @Magpie90 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet Pro 6830's document feeder is having trouble picking up and processing documents correctly, even after cleaning the rollers and updating the software, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Check for Obstructions or Debris: Ensure there’s no debris or small paper bits in the document feeder area. Sometimes, even tiny pieces of paper or dust can cause feeding issues.
  • Inspect and Clean the Feed Rollers: You've cleaned the rollers, but make sure you’ve done so thoroughly. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol. Let them dry completely before trying to feed documents again.
  • Verify Document Type and Quality: Ensure the documents you're trying to scan are in good condition. They should be flat, not torn or wrinkled, and should not have any staples or paper clips. Check that the paper is of the right size and weight recommended for the feeder.
  • Adjust the Paper Guides: Make sure the paper guides in the document feeder are properly adjusted to fit the size of the documents you're feeding. Guides that are too tight or too loose can cause feeding problems.
  • Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: Sometimes, software issues can affect hardware functionality. Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for macOS High Sierra. If you do, consider reinstalling them.
  • Run a Printer Diagnostic Test: Many HP printers have built-in diagnostic tools. Check the HP software or HP Smart app for any available diagnostic tests that might help identify the issue.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure the printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues related to document handling. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Perform a Hard Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset any internal errors affecting the feeder.
  • Test with Different Documents: Try feeding a few different documents to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the specific documents you’re using.

I hope this helps.
