Excellent.

Network discovery step is in the document but I did not extract it for the example -- I will add this to personal notes (few people actually read documents).  Smiling.  Thanks for the reminder!

I am glad the printer is finally working as expected.

Happy Printing!

Use "Add a Printer" to find and add the basic drivers for the Officejet 7200 series.

  • If necessary: Connect the printer by USB

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer >

The printer that I want isn’t listed >

Click / Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings >

Choose a printer Port > (FOR USB:  Look in the list for USB001 or other USB00#) >

Select the highest Port listed >

Next > Click Windows Update > Wait around...  update can take several minutes >

Select HP (left column) > Scroll right column, Select HP Officejet 7200 >

Next > (Optional) Enter a Printer Name (or use default shown) >

Next > Click Yes in the UAC control to allow the change > Wait for printer to be installed >

Click / Select Share this printer so that others on your network can find and use it >

OPTIONAL:  Fill in Location and Comment >

Next > OPTIONAL:   Set printer as default and Print a test page >

Finish >> Printer is now listed in Devices and Printers and is ready for use

Thanks for help.

Printer works OK/prints & scans connected directly via USB port/cable; I would like to disconnect USB and connect via Ethernet cable. Please advice how to do it; which port I have to selected for Ethernet connection.

If you have switched the connection and the printer is now "off line" (not responding):

  • Restart Everything, including the router -- the printer may connect and respond correctly

and / or

I tried all different ports in ports selection and cannot find the right one; still getting printing errors when connected to the network via Ethernet cable. Please advice where to find HP 7210 software for WIN 10; with software install this port shoud be detected automatically.

This may or may not work - the printer may only function via the USB cable.

There has not been software for this printer for a long time.

Try / Consider:

Remove the printer from Devices and Printers - delete it.

Shut down the computer

Connect the printer to your network router - wait 60 seconds

Print a network configuration report

If the configuration report verifies the printer is on the network:

Verify that your router can see the printer on the network

Boot the computer and log in

Open a cmd window and ping the printer

If the printer is on the network:

Add-a-Printer procedure - Add the printer using the first available port offered (LPT1?)

I did it in a slightly different way.

1. Manually selected/added printer

2. Activated Discovery Network to share the printer

3. Everything works fine = can print now via network Ethernet cable

Thanks for help.
