Photosmart 7520
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

After update on iMac to OS 11.2.3, I can no longer initiate a scan from my iMac nor can I initiate a scan from the 7520 to my computer.  I can email a scan.

Following the OS 11.2.3 update i has errors indicating the HP Scanner.app would damage my computer.  I deleted the HP printer/scanner app.  I loaded printer drivers using the HP_EASY_START.app.

@Jayhawk74, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Have you tried using the Apple Image Capture?

Your printer might experience a temporary disruption after the credentials on some older versions of Mac drivers were unintentionally revoked. HP has worked with Apple to restore these drivers, but some printers might still be affected.

The symptoms of the disruptions can include the following messages:

  • "HPxyz.framework" will damage your computer

  • Software for "%@" failed to run. (-9927)

  • Can't open "/private/var/spool/cups/tmp/..."

If your printer is still unable to print, follow the instructions below to remove and reinstall the HP printer software.

  1. Download HP Uninstaller.zip.

  2. Double-click the HP Uninstaller icon.

    HP Uninstaller .zip file icon

  3. Double-click the HP Uninstaller app.

  4. If a confirmation message opens, click Open.

Clicking Open in a confirmation message

  5. Follow the in-app instructions to uninstall all the HP software from your system.

  6. If you are prompted for credentials to continue, type the User Name and Password, and then click OK.

Typing the user name and password and then clicking OK

  7. Once the Uninstaller removes the software, close the HP Uninstaller app.

  8. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.

  9. Type your printer model, and then click Submit.

  10. Under Driver or Driver-Product Installation Software, download the latest software for your printer.

    NOTE:

This might be HP Easy Start, HP Smart, or Mac Printer Driver version 5.1. System administrators and those unable to use HP Easy Start can use HP Easy Admin to download the software pkg files directly for use in managed or remote deployment environments.

  11. Once the download completes, open the software and follow the prompts to complete installation.

  12. For Mac Printer Driver version 5.1, open System Preferences, and then open Printers & Scanners to re-add your printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

TEJ1620,

The print function works.  The problem I am having is with the scan function.  I cannot initiate a scan and send it to my Mac nor can I initiate a scan from my Mac.  Both of these capabilities were were available prior the the update.  I looked for an HP scan application on my Mac and there isn't anything.

I followed your directions.  In that process of updating,  it stops the 'searching for SW' phase and then provides the following message- "We were not able to automatically locate any software options for this product.  Please go to the HP Website and search for product solutions there.  WWW.HP.com/support"  (This link is a circular reference as it brings me around to the same HP Easy Start download. ) I interpret the message as I should have some additional SW downloaded.

I noticed that at the initial point in the download process it declared that it had detected MacOS 10.2.  Mine is actually MacOS 11.2.3 so I selected the option MacOS 11.2.  This may be a clue to the problem.

TEJ1602,

I searched the Apple App Store for Image Capture.  That found HP Easy Scan application, which I downloaded.

When I initiate HP Easy Scan it populates the 'scanner field' with my Photosmart 7520.  It also gives an error "HP Scanner 3.app" will damage your computer, and grayed out letters- this file was downloaded on an unknown date.
