I have an HP officejet pro 7720, the printing and scanning on the flatbed work fine however, the scan feeder seems to have an issue. It will sense and feed documents from the tray through the scanner and out like its working normally but when its done I get an error saying "the document feeder was not able to pick up the original. make sure the document feeder cover is closed completely. load the original in the document feeder and try again." I've opened and closed the cover a sever times and the error still persists. also when i try to scan several documents it will sometimes stop mid process to give me this error message.

I have a similar issue with the same model which has been working fine until recently. My document feeder stops every time at page 3 and I can't figure out why. Faxing and Scanning multiple pages is now a real problem.
