Error message:
Secure connection (SSL or TLS) failed. Check your settings and try again.
Latest firmware, reset printer multiple times. Cannot get both options to work.
E-mail server works perfect for other applications

Check whether your email provider requires 2-Step and an App Password to access third party apps.
Scan-to-Email qualifies as a "third party app".
==============================
Scan to Email – Two-Step Verification and Application Password
Email Account Security
"Scan to Email", "HP Scan > Email" and "Share" are subject to your Email provider's security that governs how your email account interacts with "third party software / apps".
For example, Google (G-Mail) and other email providers, including (and not limited to) Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, might require that you enable 2-Step Verification AND create and use an App Password to interact with the printer software, printer applications, or any program that requires that software to access your email account.
Where the email provider's security requires it, the App Password is used in place of your normal email password in "third party" apps and software.

This video will quickly show you how to set up scan to email with an HP printer with G-mail AND keep the 2-Step verification security feature. App Passwords
Set up Scan to Email HP Printer with 2 Step Verification on G-mail and Google
Steps
Log into your Google Account
Open your Google Security Webpage
Next, if not done, Switch ON 2-step verification
Next, Complete the steps to open your mail security settings
and
Create / Select app and (then) create your app password
- At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using > Select device and choose the device you’re using > Generate.
- Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
- Tap Done.
Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.
Assign / set that new App Password in your Scan to Email profile as the password.
Save and Test

You are welcome.
@Paul_Zhimble wrote:Hi, thank you for the reply. however, my e-mail server does not have two-factor authorisation configured.
It seems not to be able to establish a secure connection. Any other ideas?
Note sure.
Security errors come back to the email provider not accepting the receipt of the package.
There must be "something"...
Try restarting everything, including the router -- it is not high on the list of magic, but it's fairly painless.
Check EWS to ensure that something odd has not happened to your Security settings.
Reference:
Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings
Check the list of allowed (checked) services.
Example - EWS - Settings > Security > Administrator Settings
EWS_9025_Webscan_Settings_Security_Administrator_Webscan_3
Manually remove all profile and SMTP information and start over.
Try using a different email address from a different provider.
True - if that different provider is one of the many who have email providers who have disabled "Less Secure Apps", you will have to create and use the App Password in place of the regular email password.
Check whether your current email provider offers the option of creating / using 2-step verification. If yes, switch on 2-Step verification, Create an App Password for mail, edit your SMTP Profile and email profile for Email Alerts > substitute the App Password in place of your regular email password.
Restore the printer to the factory or network settings.
Network defaults is a bit less harsh but it is not as likely to help.
Factory defaults wipes out all settings, including those for your Fax and Scan to Email.
There's the risk of locking up the printer.
