The ADF on my printer has been working correctly but since an update from Windows it will only scan one sheet despite several being loaded on the ADF.

Using the HP Scan programme I set it to scan both sides of the documents but, despite several pages being loaded at the same time the scanner will only scan  both sides of the first page, it then stops.  In order to scan the remaining pages I have to select the add button and then scan for each successive sheet and then repeat the process.

How can I get the ADF to scan successive pages without manual intervention?

Sorry, I looked for a solution on YouTube but could not find one that dealt specifically with the ADF only scanning one sheet of paper and not then continuing to scan the remaining sheets in the ADF.  The problem therefore is why does the ADF not feed all of the loaded sheets of paper without stopping.

This is not an issue related to scanning a second or greater batch as the ADF was full on the initial scan.

I looked at a list of the videos shown in the link, none of them appeared appropriate however one of them recommended checking to the HP Smart programme, which I did.

The problem with the HP Smart was that it denied that my printer was connected despite the fact that I could use it from the computer, my phone and tablet.

I then opened HP Scan which did recognise the computer.

I then powered off the printer and, after powering on found that it scanned multiple pages from the ADF without any problems.

The solution to this particular problem is to turn off the printer and restart it however this does not explain why HP smart does not recognise the printer for scanning but HP Scan does.  HP Smart does recognise the printer for checking ink levels etc.

I use HP Scan exclusively but on account that HP Scan (the one that came with my printer) has higher resolution than HP Smart.  Possibly the newest HP Smart mighty work better. Skip down to where I explain how to "update" HP smart

These are the full feature drivers for windows dated April 18, 2024

After installing the full feature driver package, click the windows key and select all apps and find HP.

Look for HP Scan.

If HP scan is not present then use HP Smart.
get HP Smart from the microsoft store if needed or if you want the newest version. You will have to sign into HP Smart using your HP account. The latest version as of Jun, 2024 is 154.2.1072.0 (USA English). If you do not have this version then go to the Microsoft store, find HP Smart, and click "update". If the button "update" is missing then you need to run "wsreset" from the Windows search bar.

To put HP Smart (or HP Scan) on the desktop:

For Windows 10, click Start. For Windows 11, click Start and click All apps This will show (see above) a list of all apps you have installed in Windows. Find the target app from the list, drag and pull the app from the Start menu to the desktop. This will create a desktop shortcut for the app installed from Microsoft Store.

The following video is an example of how to put an app on the desktop.
