The ADF does not work to scan documents. Scans fine using scanner bed. ADF works fine for copying though.

@8602, thank you for the detailed response.
It seems like the scanning feature has been disabled according to the message.
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
- Go to Scan > Try scanning and check if this works
- Now, go to Settings on the same page > Administrator Settings > Webscan > Enable > Apply and Ok.
Now try scanning. If the issue persists, we will have to perform a factory reset on the printer.
Let me know how this goes.

Hi @8602
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to scan from the ADF. I'd be happy to assist you.
- Are you using a Win PC or a MAC?
- Which application are you using to scan?
- What is the error you get while scanning from the feeder?
- Does the ADF pick the paper while scanning?
The printer uses the same mechanism to copy and to scan. Try making a copy again from the ADF and check if that works.
Make sure to select the 'Document feeder' option in source while scanning.
Keep me posted for further assistance.

I am using a HP EliteBook 840 G4 with Windows 10.
When I try using the HP printer assistant installed on the device and I click on "Printer Home Page" and then "Scan" to open a scan menu I get a message that says "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information contact the person who set up the printer." I am the one who set up the printer. I have tried but cannot find how to enable this function.
I just tried again and the ADF works fine for copying but when I place something in it and tap the scan button on the printer it will only scan from the bed.
I have not been able to find anyplace that gives me the option to select the document feeder.
I purchased this printer in December last year (2019) to replace the one I had which was the same exact printer. The ADF always worked fine on that one.
