HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

Hi,

I have problem with automatic document feeder. When I put the paper into feeder there is no beep. Couple minutes before it works fine. I tried to Scan doctor and everything is ok but when test scanning  no beep on paper insert and scanner scan empty paper. Also I tried to copy from feeder and scan result also empty paper.

Is possible that the flag that detects paper in the ADF is not working? Is it possible to do something? I was cleaning but nothing.....Also I reinstalled software, firmware is up to date.....

Can you help me to solve this?

HI @CN88G250VV,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the paper detection mechanism in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) of your printer. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem:

Troubleshooting the ADF Paper Detection Issue

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the ADF and check for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be blocking the paper detection sensor.
  • Clean the rollers and the entire ADF path thoroughly to ensure there is no dust or debris causing the issue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can sometimes reset the sensors and resolve minor issues.

Check the ADF Sensor Flag:

  • The ADF sensor flag is a small plastic lever that detects when paper is inserted. It could be stuck or out of place.
  • Carefully inspect the flag to ensure it moves freely and is not broken. You may need to manually move the flag to see if it’s functioning correctly.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You mentioned it is, but double-check on the HP website for any recent updates that might not be detected automatically.

Test Different Paper:

  • Try using different types or sizes of paper to see if the issue persists. Sometimes the ADF might not recognize certain paper types if they are too thick or too thin.

Calibrate the ADF:

  • Some printers have a calibration process for the ADF. Check the printer manual or the HP website for instructions on how to calibrate the ADF on your specific model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @CN88G250VV

This is the sensor.

ADF Sensor OJ7740-1.png

It could be paper or dust blocking the sensor so it doesn't detect when paper is inserted.
If the top part was missing, the device would always report that paper is inserted.

Try to clean the two openings (in the lower part) with air.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards
