IMG_2074.JPGWhen scanning a set of documents through the document feeder on top of the printer, I always get the message at the end: "Problem with document feeder". The documents I want to scan are A4 size. What's wrong, how can I fix this?

Translation (from Google - likely more or less accurate)

Make sure your document is within the document feeder specifications and is fully loaded in the tray. If the problem persists, select More Information

Places to check / clean / adjust...

Note:  Ignore what is not relevant.

Check / Clean the ADF - as a matter of thoroughness, check / clean other parts of the print / paper path mechanism, as well.

Note:  Barring errors elsewhere, cleaning is at the top of the list of solutions.

===============================================================================

Check the Specifications - the paper(s) you are trying to scan must meet the criteria for paper size / type / weight / number of sheets.

===============================================================================

Load the paper / stack into the ADF according to the instructions in the User Guide  Page 36

  • If you don't hear an "accept tone" when you load the paper / stack, remove the paper and reset the document into place in the ADF again.
  • Make sure the guide bars are snug but not too tight.  Paper cannot feed it it is too tightly squeezed - paper that is too loose (guide bars too far apart) can fail to hold the paper for proper alignment.

===============================================================================

The next part has to do with the job content and the software / application you are using.

Make sure the job setup Presets (job type) and the Page Size match or exceed the size of the paper.

For example

Preset type > Document

Page Size > A4 , Entire Scan Area

Printer Supports 2-sided scan - select as appropriate for the current job.

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan Document

Example - HP Scan (part of the full feature driver) - Main Menu
