HP Officejet 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

We are able to print, copy, scan and recieve faxes no problem but anytime we go to send a fax it gives us the busy signal.

We've tried sending to multiple fax numbers, including our own fax machine in different office. We can send faxes to ourself from the other fax machine (we recieve that test fax successfully) but we can't send them back to that other fax machine, gives us the busy signal and then redials multiple times, always getting the busy signal.

I tried the fax test and that said everything was successful and good to go.

We restarted-unplugged fax

We restored factory settings

We switched the error connection on/off

We unplugged the splitter and put the line directly in jack

nothing worked..

Any thoughts or suggestions?

@SchofieldRhino,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support community!

  • Are you using the 2 conductor fax cable that came with the printer?
  • Are you sending fax in color or black and white?

Let's try these steps:

  • On the printer control panel, swipe the screen from right to left to access the 'Set-Up' menu
  • Go to Fax Set Up > Advanced fax settings > Fax Speed > select 'Slow(9600)'
  • Go to Fax Set Up > Advanced fax settings > Error Correction Mode > select 'Off'
  • Go to Fax Set Up > Basic Fax Set Up > Dial type > select 'Tone Dialing'
  • Try to send a fax again

Send a one-page black and white text fax to 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). When the service receives your fax, a return confirmation fax is sent within five minutes. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax.

Let me know if this information helps.
