HP ENVY Photo 7830
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello everybody!

A few weeks ago I had to replace my beloved Photosmart B110a by an ENVY Photo 7830 due to an irreparable printhead issue. I must admit that I am quite satisfied with the new printer but I miss a feature or do still not know how to activate it:

Both printers allow direct scanning to a SD card. With the Photsmart B110a it was possible to access the SD card from my pc via network drive function, i.e. it was not necessary to plug the card from the printer into my PC to access the scanner files. The ENVY Photo 7830 does not show up as a network drive in windows. Web-cofnfig is working, though.

Is the feature missing with the new printer or did I miss to enable it?

Thank you in advance!

Looking through the user guide there is no mention made of being able to view or access the memory card from the PC while plugged in. Some of these features were discontinued due to security risks involved. That said, I do not physically have a similar model here so I cannot state for sure that it does not, but if it does it is undocumented.

An interesting fact is that this feature is not documented in the manual of my old Photosmart B110a, too. If I try to connect to my printer as a network drive a password is requested which I don't know. I would expect that windows claimed "connection not possible" if it weren't possible. Therefore I still think that I am making a mistake or made a mistake during initial configuration.

If you are being prompted for a username and password, try using those you use to log in to your PC. I have a NAS drive that windows 10 likes forcing me to lig in to.

Hi,

You may access the SD Card reader by mapping a network drive using your printer's IP Address.

What happens if you try accessing the printer's IP as a local path?

Swipe down the top bar on the printer to reveal the dashboard, then tap the Wireless icon and locate the printer's IP Address.

From the PC click on Start and then Run.

Type \\YOURPRINTERIP and press OK (e.g. \\10.0.0.15)

Can you access this network location or any prompt or error appears?

You should have a Memory Card subfolder there, with the content of the card reader.

Assuming this work, you may mark a network drive using this path, to easily access the card reader under Computer:

Hi,
Unfortunately, using the printer's IP does not work. Surprisingly I am no longer prompted for user/pw when I try to connect the printer as a network drive. But since I am pretty sure that I was prompted before, I think that this happened during the time when the driver was not installed correctly.

I have no further ideas but to accept that this feature is no longer supported as Repairatrooper already supposed. 😭

I am going to keep the thread open for another week, though, and will close it if no one else replies.

Thank you for your help so far!

It seems that the functionality I am looking for is not available. I am using the "Scan to PC" (send via network) option instead which works quite well under Windows (Linux not tested).

Thank you for the support!
