For years a have been happily using my HP ScanJet Pro N4000 snw1 with my most important use case archiving documents in black/white (1 bit) small-size searchable pdf files.

 

Now in the beginning (i estimate somewhere in 2021) i had some issues with the software (can't even remember exactly what) so hp support gave me a slightly older sw version and everything was working fine for me.

 

Forwarding to 2023, without even thinking about it i updated the software to the latest version and everything still seemed to be working fine.

 

But now i notice that my 1-bit searchable pdfs have become much larger in size. They are even slightly larger then if i would scan them in color. Is this is known issue? Can i do something about this?
