My printer was scanning and printing fine this morning. Now, I have a yellow 1 inch line going down the left side of the page. I have done a reset and cleaned the glass but didn't fix it. Any ideas??

HI @TimInNY,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing a yellow line down the left side of the page when scanning or printing, it's likely caused by a dirty or damaged component within the scanner or printer. Here's what you can do to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Step 1: Clean the Scanner Glass

  1. Turn Off the Printer:
    • Make sure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
  2. Open the Scanner Lid:
    • Open the scanner lid to access the scanner glass.
  3. Clean the Glass:
    • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with glass cleaner or water to clean the scanner glass thoroughly.
    • Pay special attention to the area corresponding to where the yellow line appears on the printed or scanned pages.
  4. Dry the Glass:
    • Use a dry lint-free cloth to dry the scanner glass completely.
  5. Close the Scanner Lid:
    • Close the scanner lid once you've cleaned the glass.

Step 2: Clean the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) (If Applicable)

  1. Open the ADF Cover:
    • If your printer has an ADF, open the cover to access the scanning area.
  2. Clean the ADF Rollers and Glass:
    • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water to clean the rollers and the glass strip under the ADF.
    • Make sure there is no debris or dirt on the rollers or the glass.
  3. Close the ADF Cover:
    • Close the ADF cover once you've cleaned the rollers and glass.

Step 3: Perform a Printer Self-Test

  1. Print a Self-Test Page:
    • Use the printer's control panel to print a self-test page. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.
    • Check if the yellow line appears on the self-test page. If it does, the issue is likely with the printer itself.
    • If the self-test page is clean, the problem may be related to the scanner.

Step 4: Check and Replace Ink or Toner Cartridges

  1. Inspect Ink or Toner Cartridges:
    • If your printer uses cartridges, check them for any leaks or damages. Replace any damaged cartridges.
    • If the cartridges are low on ink or toner, consider replacing them, as low levels can sometimes cause printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
