Hello, I'm Ivan and I'm hating the 8600
The thing is, the machine is in the office of an old person, recently uptadted the machine from win 8 to 10, and since then I often can't scan with the hp application or from windows (control panel/ printers and devices/ start digitalization)
At first works ok with fresh install, but randomly some day later it stops working.
I discovered that the app HP SMART get installed and "kidnaps" the printer so HPscan does not work, if I uninstall HP smart it works again.
But then again some days later didn´t work again. I thought that the problem was windows update, and disabled the service to see if that fixed it... but no
It is really annoying the same happens sometimes 5 or 30 days later in any moment and the only solution so far is unninstall and reinstall the lastest web driver...which was made for win8 not for 10 and seems to be the support was dropped (for such a big lump of plastic and headaches...)
Thanks in advance
I think, the drivers gets updated or something like that and start to fail because loose the WIA driver.

Main reason to keep using HPscan (that comes with the drivers) is because the

I'm surprised you're able to keep it working for that long.
My grandfather has one. I'm pretty tech savvy, he is not.
We have it set to wireless because we need it to be. IF it works, it takes several minutes for it to do either a print or scan (with both of us crossing our fingers with the wait). And pretty much every time after after a successful job (or even just a scan preview) it will then say it's gone offline when we do our next attempt at a scan or print immediately after.
SOMETIMES restarting the printer may work? In the past we've rebooted the computer to get it to work. ? Which again often/sometimes may have to be done AFTER EVERY SINGLE JOB, Because doing the "basic" removing and re-applying the printer in Windows usually doesn't work either (somehow), especially not without the reboot. And again a computer/printer reboot was/is often required to get it to function again - which shouldn't have been a thing so much since they get shut down every night anyways. And CERTAINLY the printer should not have to be restarted after every single job in hopes that that will work (the "quickest" hit-and-miss "solution").
It's insanely maddening (especially with my grandfather in the middle) and it has been for years.

Hello, I was waiting for the problem to happen again, I'll try an see if the solution posted is definitive (I hope so)
Your problem seems to be related to the wireless connection... I'll say you should try with ethernet cable or USB.
i know a pair of 6000 at least to be quite problematic in one or another way (cartridges, heads, connection, etc)

Oh man, today was an adventure for me as well. Luckily, I / we don't print much, but it (printing, at least) keeps proving to be an issue that takes all afternoon to maybe/probably not solve, but to just function for the job that needs to get done. For one of 3 different people/computers/devices.
I'm starting to swear that something with how my computer is set up (and perhaps not the others) with its drivers causes the wireless ON the printer to crash whenever it talks to my computer. I've done yet another driver install from HP (non-Smart app) and got my jobs through which were refusing to. Previously every time I tried from my computer the Wifi on the printer would stop working and had to be reinitialized. Now I've got the jobs to go through and print but then my computer still gives me a "disconnected from scanning (/printer?)" message after sending it through now successfully. And it worked with a second print maybe? But maybe it was luck that attempt.
