Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Printer: HP LaserJet M235dwe

Operating System: Android 13

As of a few months ago the Batch scan feature on the HP Smart mobile app is not working properly on the second scan. The first scan is successful but when you try to scan the second page, there is an error that says scan unsuccessful even though the printer is physically scanning the document.

I know I can scan using the desktop to scan but I don't want to have to be powering on the desktop just for a quick scan. I don't want to have to use the Document scan feature on the mobile app instead and then clicking to add another page as a workaround. I prefer to be using the Batch scan feature since it is most efficient. Is there a bug that HP needs to fix on the HP Smart mobile app? The Batch scan feature used to work properly when I first purchased the printer in April of this year. Please help. Thank you.

It sounds like you’re experiencing issues with the Batch Scan feature on the HP Smart mobile app for your HP LaserJet M235dwe, particularly with Android 13. Given that it used to work properly, this might be due to a software update or a bug in the app. Here’s a structured approach to resolve this problem:

1. Update the HP Smart App

  • Check for Updates: Go to the Google Play Store and ensure that the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version. Updates often fix bugs and improve functionality.
    • Open the Google Play Store.Search for HP Smart. If an update is available, tap Update.

2. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your HP LaserJet M235dwe has the latest firmware. Sometimes, updating the printer firmware can resolve compatibility issues with the mobile app.
    • Go to HP’s support website.Search for your printer model and check for any available firmware updates.
    • Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

3. Clear App Cache and Data

  • Clear Cache/Data:
    • Go to Settings on your Android device.Navigate to Apps or Applications.Find and select HP Smart.
    • Tap on Storage and choose Clear Cache. If the problem persists, you might also try Clear Data (note that this will reset the app to its default state and you may need to set it up again).

4. Reinstall the HP Smart App

  • Uninstall and Reinstall:
    • Go to the Google Play Store.Search for HP Smart and uninstall it.
    • Restart your phone.Reinstall the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store and set it up again.

5. Check App Permissions

  • Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart.Ensure the app has permissions for Storage and Camera. This is crucial for scanning functionality.

6. Check Printer and Mobile Device Connectivity:

  • Ensure that both your printer and mobile device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.Restart both your printer and mobile device to refresh their connections.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel571,

I have the same issue and have tried all of the options noted in your detailed post.  I have a LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw and am using the HP Smart App on a Samsung device using Android 14.  I have an HP Spectre 360 laptop with the printer also registered in the support assistant which indicates no new updates available for the printer.

The batch scanning is my most used function in the app and I would love to have it functioning again soon.  If you have additional ideas to correct the issue it would be appreciated.
Jen
