HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw

My  MFP M227fdw printer has a black line on all copies made with ONLY the feeder.  I believe the is an issue with dirt/scratch on the ADF scanner glass.  I notice the thin plastic strip ove the ADF scanner glass has a scratch which lines up with the mark on copies.   Can I get a new plastic strip?  I was able to remove and reinstall the original one.  Why is this such a sensitive and poorly engineered  design?

Thank you,

Hi @DDStelthy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Pinter!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

It’s common for vertical lines or streaks to appear on copies when using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) due to debris or scratches on the ADF glass strip. This issue generally arises because even the tiniest specks can distort the light reflected off the original document, causing lines or smudges on the copies.

Steps for Cleaning the ADF Glass Strip

Inspect the ADF Glass: Locate the one-inch strip of glass to the left of the main scanner flatbed glass. This is commonly the area causing issues when copying or scanning via the ADF.

Clean the ADF Glass: Use a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water to clean the ADF glass. It’s essential that any stubborn debris be gently loosened using only your fingernail, as other objects can scratch the glass further.

Dry the Glass: After cleaning, gently dry the glass with a soft, dry cloth to prevent spotting.

Test Copies Again: Make another copy or scan to determine if the defect is resolved.

Replacement of Plastic Strip

Regarding the scratch you noticed on the thin plastic strip over the ADF scanner glass, scratches can indeed cause copy defects that align with them:

I hope this helps.

Your response is accurate as  to cleaning the  ADF glass; however this will not correct the problem if the plastic strip over it is scratched.  I am interested in knowing if a replacement piece of plastic can be sent.   Thanks for responding.

The mylar is there so rather than the glass being damaged, an easily replaceable mylar strip takes the damage. Trust me, people feed staples through the ADF all the time. You may never have done this but it is a real problem. The strip is replaceable, This should be the correct part B3Q10-00060. That part is for the M428, but most of their small printers share parts like this.
