I get a blue vertical line on scans using the ADF but not when using the flat bed glass. I don not get the blue line when copying either with the ADF or flat bed glass. I have cleaned the glass and the rollers with a lint free cloth and lint free swabs. The power is plugged directly into a wall outlet. Any ideas?

@holmx017,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, there is a blue line while making a scan from ADF.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

I have few troubleshooting steps we could try to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Confirm the issue is not printing-related

The steps in this document resolve quality issues when scanning only.

If quality issues occur when printing from the computer, do not continue with these steps. Go to HP Customer Support, type your printer model number if necessary, then search for print quality to find the Fixing Poor Print Quality document for steps to resolve the issue.

If quality issues occur when scanning, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Clean the scanner

Fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on the scanner glass, under the scanner lid, or in the document feed slot can cause lines and color bands. Clean these parts with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

Read one of the following sections for steps to clean these components, depending on your printer type.

Keep me posted,

Have a great day 🙂

The issue only occurs when scanning using the ADF. Never when using the flatbed, never when copying and never when printing. The problem appeared two days ago and the last time the scan was fine was two days before that. All three machines networked to the printer show the issue. One machine, an HP Spectre 360 had a BIOS update but was the last machine to show the issue and only during testing the issue (this machine uses another scanner). The blue line does not look like dirt. All of the cleaning solutions you suggested have already been done. In fact the line is not really blue-it is clearly cyan.

I talked to support and they were no help--just tried to sell me a new printer! Which it took me a while to figuure out through his thick accent.

The issue then started happening when copying with the ADF. I again tried pinting from a machine and also did a test print on the printer--no line. The problem had to be with the ADF path. I looked at the ADF scan window (which I had cleaned) very carefully with a tactical flashlight and saw a very fine magenta filament on the glass. I removed it and problem solved. It must have been refracting the light causing the scanner to pick up cyan.

We are having this same problem. I am going to try to figure out what you mean by the ADF scan window. with us it is only happening on the flat bed but I cant use the one where it pulls through (is this ADF?) because you can't do multipages with that one.     anyway any suggestions welcome
