We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I previously was connected to a Brothers Printer/Scanner.  I uninstalled this printer/scanner or so I thought.  It no longer shows up in my settings, however, when I downloaded the HP Scanner, the Brothers Printer/Scanner continues to show vs. my HP Desk Jet Scanner.  I upgraded the drivers as well too.  Any suggestions on how to connect to the HP device and rid the system of the Brothers Printer/Scanner?  I need to scan documents immediately for project that was due yesterday!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

 

Open Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

If you find any Brother printer software, Click and Uninstall the software.

 

Open Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

If the DeskJet printer software is installed and is not working,

Click and Uninstall (all) the DeskJet software.

 

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Check >> Right-Click on "Brother" printer(s) and Remove any "Brother" printer references.

If the DeskJet printer software was uninstalled,

Check >> Right-Click on "DeskJet" printer(s) and Remove any "DeskJet" printer references.

 

Next,

Restart everything, including the router that controls your network.

If you cannot stand to restart everything, at least Restart the computer and log in.

 

Check to make sure the uninstalled printer(s) is / are not listed - 

If you see any left over Printer(s), Right-Click and Remove > Restart the computer and log in

The DeskJet printer supports Wireless or USB (cable connection between printer and computer).

 

If the Wireless connection is wanted, and the printer is not yet connected to Wireless,

The Full Feature Software is available for your DeskJet 2542 printer.

The software is rated for Windows 10.

 

Next,

Download and Save a copy of the Installation Package

Install a fresh copy of the Full Printer Software

Restart the computer and log in

Basic Instructions - Install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

 

Preparation

 

  • If the printer software is still / already installed, Uninstall the printer software  from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features > Restart the computer and log in – Reference Uninstall HP printer software and drivers

 

NOTE:  If the printer also installs Help files - Uninstall the printer help file package from Programs and Features when you are uninstalling the main printer software.

 

  • >>> After the printer software is uninstalled, check that the printer is not still lurking in Devices and Printers.  If the printer is listed, Right-Click on the printer and "Remove" > Restart the computer and sign in.
  • If Continuing issues, software won't install,or you see message "Driver Unavailable" during installation:    After you Uninstall the printer software > Restart the computer and log in >>> Add the steps described in the "Check and Remove" section.

Continuing

  • If using VPN, shut it off to install software.  NOTE >> If you don’t know what this is, you are not using a VPN – ignore this part.

 

  • Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.  Later... Connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation procedure).

 

Next,

Installation

  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software Web Pack installation package
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using a USB printer cable to connect the printer to the computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the installation procedure
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in
