OfficeJet Pro 8600

Hello HP. I have been a loyal HP All-In-One machine owner for 3-4 decades.  That is about to end. Since Apple has now reached the 2 trillion dollar asset level, one of the highest if not the highest market value of any company in the world, it might be wise for HP to support product compatibility with the latest Mac Catalina OS. I realize HP would like consumers to buy new printers/scanners as often as possible.  Perhaps that is one reason HP does not aspirare to maintain software updates for my slightly older HP Officejet Pro 8600. And the work around app, HP Easy Scan does not recognize my scanner either, only the printer function.  So I'll be looking for a new All-In-One machine . Sorry, it won't be an HP this time or perhaps ever again.

Well Jay that works in a fashion. After I created a "shared folder" I can use the HP web scan link to scan. Then it goes to myscandocs folder where I can find the saved/scanned docs.  Let me know if you think of or find another way to have scan tab avaialable when I select "printers and scanners" on the "system preferences" menu and NOT have to take the extra steps of going to HP web scan.  Try to attach a screen shot to send you that shows how I did it. Not sure it copied. If you send me a real email address I can send it that way.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @acksteveni,

I'd like to help!

You could add the AirPrint printer and scan using image capture.

Add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Try scanning ane let me know

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Jay

I appreciate your assistance. I can't figure out how to get to step #3, "airprint display in the use menu". Please advise. And so you know, the "bonjour multifunction" does not show up for my HP 8600 printer only the word "bonjour". This seems to be part of the issue with scanning.

thanks

steven

Printer_EWS_Bonjour_2

Enabel bonjour on the ews page

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address
--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP
--->then go to network --->advance settings-->bonjour-->disable and enable bonjour

and then try and add the printer to your computer

Keep me posted!

Well when I try to save a scan pdf doc it does not save. So that is an issue I need to solve. The HP webscan page says there is supposed to be a "save" icon. But I don't see that and can't get it to save any other way I know. Please advise.
