Hi @DENNISMOSS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand your concern regarding crooked scans on both your previous HP Smart Tank 7300 series and your newly purchased HP Smart Tank 7600 series. We appreciate your loyalty and the feedback you've provided.

HP Smart Tank printers are designed and tested to meet stringent scan alignment tolerances. However, in certain situations, crooked or misaligned scans may occur, particularly when using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

Please follow the steps below to correct the scanning alignment:

1. Perform ADF Calibration

This recalibrates the scanner’s alignment system.

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Tap Settings > Printer Maintenance > Scanner Maintenance > ADF Calibration (or similar wording)
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

2. Clean ADF Feed Rollers and Scanner Glass

Dust, paper debris, or even small adhesive residues can cause misfeeds.

  • Lift the ADF cover.
  • Clean the ADF rollers and separator pad using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Also, clean the ADF scan strip (narrow glass area to the left of the flatbed glass).

3. Ensure Paper Is Loaded Properly

  • Load pages face up in the ADF.
  • Align them with the paper guides snugly — do not overload the tray.
  • Make sure there are no bent or curled pages.

4. Update Printer Firmware

HP regularly provides firmware updates that improve scan performance and alignment.

  • From the printer:
    • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Printer Update > Check for Updates
  • Or use the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device:
    • Open HP Smart > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings (EWS) > Tools > Printer Updates

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
