Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Dear community,

My hp printer ENVY 5646 is showing alignment errors for some time now. The result of a  neatly inserted A4 page is disalligned by several degrees. This results in narrow black (triangular) areas appearing at the sides.

How can the scanner be calibrated so that the result is correctly aligned again?

Many thanks in advance.

I understand your HP ENVY 5646 scanner is producing misaligned scans with black triangular edges. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and help restore proper alignment.

Clean the scanner glass and lid backing
Open the scanner lid and clean the glass using a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner.
Also clean the white backing on the underside of the scanner lid, as marks here can affect alignment.

Check document placement on the scanner glass
Place the A4 page flat against the scanner glass, aligned firmly with the reference corner (usually the top-right or top-left corner).
Make sure the paper is not skewed or lifted at the edges before closing the lid.

Perform a printer alignment
From the printer control panel or HP printer software, select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
Run the Align Printer or Align Printhead option to ensure internal calibration is up to date.

Reset printer settings
Turn the printer on, then disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and the wall outlet.
Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and turn the printer back on to reset internal settings.

Update the printer firmware
Install the latest firmware available for the HP ENVY 5646.
Firmware updates can correct scanning and sensor-related alignment issues.

Test scanning using different software
Scan using HP Scan software and then try scanning with the operating system’s default scan tool.
If the issue occurs in all applications, the problem is likely hardware-related rather than software.

Check for mechanical or sensor issues
If scans remain tilted even when the page is correctly placed, the scanner carriage or guide may be misaligned internally.
This condition cannot be corrected through software calibration on this model.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi,

Many thanks für your helpful reply!!

So, (of course)

… the scanner glass and lid backing was clean;

… I always paid carefully attention that documents were placed properly on the scanner glass (firmly aligned with the reference corner);

… I ensured the paper was never skewed or lifted at an edge before closing the lid;

But: performing a printer alignment (in German: Einrichtung -> Druckerwartung -> Druckerausrichtung) and – surprise – the issue was fixed.

I never would have thought that the alignment of the PRINTER(!) would fix my problem with the SCANNER(!) functionality.

Thanks again a lot for this support.
