Can I adjust contrast and other scanner settings on the HP 9020

When I scan written documents using the HP Smart software, the scans come out very low contrast and hard to read.

I can't find any options for adjusting the scanner settings in the HP Smart software that runs on my Macintosh.  Is there any way to adjust the scanner settings to increase the contrast or make other changes?

Is there any way to do this from the HP Smart app? Is there another app that I can use to scan from the 9020? Are there adjustments I can make on the 9020 itself?

Currently, I am better off just taking a picture with my phone, because the scanner results are not legible.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

On the HP Smart app, you may change the resolution to the max and adjust the settings as shown below.

1. Click the Scan tile.

2. From the Scan window, change any settings to match the scan job, and then click Scan.

   

   The scanned document or image displays on the Preview window.

3. Click Edit.

4. Adjust the border, rotate, crop, or straighten the image, and then click Apply.

   

If the scan quality is still not satisfactory, you may either use the HP Easy Scan app or the Apple Image Capture app.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, your suggestions did not improve things.

My firmware is up to date.  My MacOS system software is up to date.

I downloaded the HP Easy Scan app from the Mac App Store but the app did not work. It was unable to connect to the scanner.

Apple Image Capture does not appear to have any way to connect to the scanner.

While the HP Smart App lets me adjust the DPI, it does not provide an option for contrast adjustment. This app has fewer features than the scanning apps I had ten years ago. It is very disappointing.  I hope HP improves their software in the future.

@ParkPlacement, that's unfortunate. HP Easy Scan app is the recommended app to use to scan from a MAC.

Check the connection between the printer and the MAC

In HP Easy Scan, click the Scanner drop-down menu, and then select your printer.

If your printer does not display, click Browse Scanners, and then select your printer from the list. 

If the issue persists,

• Update HP Easy Scan: Open HP Easy Scan. On the upper bar, click HP Easy Scan, click Check for Updates, and then install any available updates.
