I am getting this error (Scanner Error 17) when trying to make a copy.  If I use the auto feed tray, the copy is all black excep about a 1/2" strip in the center, which is part of my copy, but filled with vertical lines through it.  If I put the copy on the scanner bed I only get a few vertical lines that print.  I would appreciate any help with this.

The error typically indicate that there is an issue with scanner hardware or power, such as a scanner bar jam or calibration issue, low scanner bulb temperature, or an internal or external electrical problem. Power resetting the printer may clear the error, let's try these steps:

Please ensure the printer is up-to-date with its firmware. If you are unsure, you can download and install the latest firmware update from here.

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of the toner cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the toner cartridges.

Unfortunately, this did not fix my issue.  Scanner Error 16 is constantly on the screen.  Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this printer is not that old and has not been used much.  This is very disappointing.

I'm afraid, its a possible scanner hardware failure. Please call HP Support to obtain all available repair/replacement options, you may use the following steps to contact your regional HP Support:

1) Click on this link.

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device. 

4) Select the country from the drop-down. 

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences. 

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
