OfficeJet Pro 6960
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I've install HP Easy Start on my Mac (10.14) and the printer is connected and working.

During the setup, I got warning that Bonjour is not working and that I won't be able to scan.   However, the printer's Bonjour setup clearly shows that the status is "Enabled" and it displays a service name of "HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 [D24044]".

In the Mac's System Prefernced --> Printers & Scanners, the printer was identified through its IP address.  I can't find it as a scanner.   I tried the "HP Easy Scan" app that was installed.  It opens and show an empty list...

What should I do?

Hi! @ZBD018, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I understand you have issues scanning from your printer and you are getting an error bonjour is not working.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Are you able to make a copy on the printer?

Are you using a dual band router?

Have you tried scanning using Apple image capture?

Are you trying to use scan to MAC feature on your printer?

Restart router printer and the computer. Try scanning again.

Try scanning using apple image capture and check if it helps.

Note: HP Printers do not work or connect to 5Ghz networks. If you are using a dual band router, please give different names to 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz networks and connect the printer to the 2.4Ghz network.

First Make sure the router can forward Bonjour packets
Not all wireless routers support Bonjour or all of Bonjour's features. Since Bonjour is the default method for discovering printers on a network, you must first make sure your wireless router supports Bonjour, and then turn the Apple device off and on.
Check the specifications or support documentation for your router or contact the router manufacturer to make sure your router supports Bonjour. It must also support forwarding Bonjour packets.
If your router supports Bonjour, skip to the next step.
If your router does not support Bonjour, use a router that supports Bonjour or add the printer to your printer list using the IP tab and the printer IP address.
Try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Try the steps recommended below.

Scan a document or photo after adding a printer to the queue with AirPrint.

  1. Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder if your printer has one.

  2. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.

  3. Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

  4. Click the name of your printer.

  5. Click Scan, then click Open Scanner.

  6. If the Software for this device is not installed message displays, click Install, then follow the instructions to complete the installation.

Image: Example of the 'Software for this device is not installed' message.

  7. Click Show Details to view details of the scan, including scan settings options.

    Image: Show Details scanning screen

  8. Select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feeder mode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.

  9. Change any settings as necessary, then click Scan.

Hi

The router we have is indeed a dual-band router.   I can't touch it.  It's the office here with > 20 other people and this is my personal printer.

The Apple Image Capture also does not list any device here.    But I just connected this printer with a USB cable and it does allow me to scan.

The office has few other HP printers from other kinds, all are accessible for printing and none of them is accessible for scanning even though they are clearly capable (like the LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn).

So, there's something about Bonjour that doesn't work... please advise.

@ZBD018

It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

Office networks have several IT restrictions which could prevent the scanner being used over the network. I believe you have to talk to the Office IT and allow the scanner over the secured network, once the scanner is allowed over the office network, HP Scan application should be able to detect the network connected scanner.

Could you check with your Office IT department and let me know if the scanner is allowed over the network.
