Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan

Officejet Pro 9025
macOS 10.15 Catalina

1. I have just set up my new Officejet 9025. It prints fine from our iMac (27-inch, late 2013; using Catalina 10.15.1) as well as from my wife's iPad and iPhone. But when I try the "Scan to Computer" function I get a message on the EWS that this function has been disabled. I have read elsewhere that it is just not possible to scan directly to a Mac from this model HP scanner. Is this true? If not, how can I get it to work?

2. I have read too that you can work around problem #1, above, by scanning to a shared folder. I have set up such a folder and also set up the connection on the scanner side through the EWS, but when I try to use the function from either the computer or the scanner, I get an "unable to connect" message. I suspect that I am not entering the "path" to the folder correctly, because I really don't understand what the "path" is. Can anyone help with this?

Hi @Fletcherthedog

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning issue.

Try scanning using the Smart Task. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - HP Smart: Using Smart Tasks

You may need to enable the webscan from the EWS page. To access the EWS, enter the printer's IP in the address bar of the browser. For example, if the IP address is 192.168.0.12, type the following address into a Web browser: http://192.168.0.12.

Go to the Settings tab > Security > Administrator Settings > Enable Webscan under Printer Settings and then click on Apply.

As this printer does not have a Full featured driver for macOS, you will not be able to Scan to computer using the printer control panel directly. However, as a work around, you may create a network folder on your mac and save the scanned documents.

To setup a share folder, refer to this video How to set up a Shared Folder in Mac Operating System for instructions. The path is the computer IP followed by he shared folder name (e.g. \\10.0.0.0\scan).

Once the folder is set up, follow the steps below:

  • Open the EWS page of the printer. Type the IP address of the printer in the browser's address bar.
  • On the Home tab, click Scan to Network Folder.
  • Click +, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  • After you have entered the required information about the network folder, click Save and Test to make sure the link to the network folder is working correctly. The entry is added to the Network Folder Profiles table.

You may also refer to page# 13 to 15 from User Guide for more information.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you, Asmita, but I found a much easier work-around: I just use the Image Capture app that comes with Macs.

Before I thought of Image Capture I tried both of the work-arounds you suggested. I couldn't get the first to work because I couldn't find "Smart Tasks" - perhaps the link you provided would solve that for me, if it were still and issue. The second suggestion didn't work because, as I wrote in my original post, I couldn't figure out what the heck the "path" was to my shared folder - all of the instructions seem to assume everybody knows that.

I think, if HP is going to deliver a product with a feature that won't work for a significant number of customers, you should make that clear in the product descriptions provided or make immediately available instructions to get around the problem written in plain language, not computer jargon.

The path is the computer IP followed by he shared folder name (e.g. \\10.0.0.0\scan).

To find out the IP address of the computer - On your Mac, open the Network Utility app , located in the /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications folder.
