Can't choose PDF as file type for scanning

I have installed my printer on my computer and can connect to it and print wirelessly just fine but I scan alot of documents and it doesn't give me the option to change the file type to PDF.

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Hello Kristi,

You need to enable Scan to Computer.  You can control scan in the HP Printer Assistant (see below).  Click Scan > Enable Scan to Computer > Enable.  Then for scanning a PDF or JPEG, click Scan a Document or Photo, which opens a Dialog with shortcuts.  Enter your preferred  details for one of the shortcuts; note if you change items a "Modify this Shortcut" pops up.  You can save your shortcut.

Find the HP Printer Assistant at Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers.  Left click twice, click on Printer Assistant.

Also, you can access and place it;s icon on the Task Bar; it is an image of the printer.  Find it in the Charms of Win 10.  Click Start, scroll to HP, scroll to the printer icon next to HP 4500 series.  That opens the printer assistant (I have Envy 5660, assume the same).  You can pin it to the task bar by right clicking it.

For your 4500, assume you will find similar items.  Reply if needed and give a Thumbs Up, please.

Another feature that produces pdf files (or JPEG)  is the Scan to Email done on the front display panel.  On my Envy 5660, click Scan > Email > Select Account.  Then you choose Scan Type (Photo or Document).  You can add Recipient's email addresses.  After you click Scan it takes awhile to show up (in your email if that is your selected recipient )as a PDF attachment in an email, with a message that it came from your email address.  Photo likely be a JPEG.

The computer has it's own email address, so an email can be sent for printing by the printer (only if it is powered up).

Hello, I purchased and wirelessly connected an HP OfficeJet Pro6968. Scan to PDF is not an option; my options are only tif, jnp, png, bmp. My other HP did not have this issue, but it was wired to the computer. I tried the HPScan Ext but it says "HP Imaging Device Not Found". 

I can print just fine and scan to the other formats but not PDF. please help!
