HP Officejet 8725 All-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

For no apparent reason (no jam took place) my HP Officejet 8725 All-in-one came up with the following error message I can not clear, Original is jammed in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Open the ADF cover, remove and reload the original, then try again."

I have tried using all the support suggestions found on this forum, but the few don't seem to address the issue. There never was a jam, I used the feeder yesterday, copying two pages successfully with no issues, tried to use it today and got error after error.

Have tried resetting, numerous times, opened the covered, looked closely with a flashlight to be certain nothing flew in the feeder, pushed down to make sure the cover was securely closed, but the rollers initiate for a brief second then the error message appears, as I've read on may other pages for many other types of HP printers.

What is the permanent fix for these issues?

 @ALLOFUS001,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support community!

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Update the printer firmware

  • Refer to this link to update the printer firmware.
  • Check if the error goes off after the update
  • If the issue persists, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer.

Step 2: Factory reset

Since you have a false error on the printer, performing a factory reset may fix the issue

  • Factory reset settings of a printer differ from one printer model to another.
  • I will send you a private message that would have the steps to reset your printer to the factory settings
  • Note: Resetting the printer to the factory settings would erase all configurations like your Wireless settings, Fax settings, and other preferences.

    You have to re-do the set up again once you perform the factory reset

Let me know if this information helps.
