Laser Jet Pro MFP M29w
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I can print via USB port or via IP-defined printer. Copy function works, but HP Easy Scan can't detect the scanner, not even as a USB device. I have updated firmware of the printer, checked for updates for the HP Easy Scan software. HP's auto-diagnostic application is a .exe file that works only on Windows.

I am that close to returning this product, but I have invested hours in trying to make it work. I want to try if the community has any solutions to offer (other than resetting the MacOSX Printing System, which would delete ALL my other printers!!).

Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

When you launch the HP Easy Scan, make sure there is no attention/alert mark near the scanner name.

If there is any Click the Presets menu and select Browse Scanners, then select your printer and scan again.

If the issue persists, from your Applications folder or its HP subfolder delete any existing HP Scan or HP Easy Scan application, delete it by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.

Next, install the latest HP Easy Scan from here. It will be installed within the Applications folder.

Finally, ensure your drivers are up to date by clicking the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update.
Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

Try scanning.

Let me know how this goes.

Thank you for your reply. The problem is I can't see SCANNER NAME AT ALL in the scanner applications (HP's or Apple's). HP Support worked on it for over an hour, with no success. At a certain stage we suspected the USB2-USB/C converter that is needed to connect to Macbook Pro to be the issue, but the same problem occured on an older Macbook Air with USB2/3 interface without any converter. I even tried on the Macbook Air resetting the printing system (which deleted all my other installed printers) and still no change. I found in this community multipe similar issues with M29w, all unresolved. Sadly, my machine is being returned.
