I have installed my Envy 5000 printer to my pc.   I installed the HP app on my i phone.  I can scan a document from the printer using this i phone app.  First, I don't know how to save this scan. Second,   I want to scan a document directly from the printer and save it on my PC.  When I hit the icon for on the printer for  scanning on my computer, it says "visit 123.hp.com to get the HP Smart app or other HP scanning software for your computer."  This is where I hit a dead end.  How do I get this  scanning software for the computer? Otherwise, the printer works fine.   Thanks for any help.

@KevinF2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

To scan directly from the printer control panel to the computer, the 'Scan to computer' feature has to be enabled through the HP Printer Assistant.

 

You may also run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix Scanning'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

 

Make sure the HP Full-featured driver is installed on the PC

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

 

Once the software is installed, Open the same, go to Scan > Scan to computer > Enable.

Thanks for the info. I was on a chat line with an HP person and he told me that since I have a Windows Vista operating system, I would not be able to scan from printer to computer. Is this correct?

As the full-feature driver for Vista is not available, please install the built-in driver. Refer to this document for steps. 

 

For scanning, refer to "How do I scan with the Windows built-in driver?" from the same document.
