I am trying to scan photos in using the HP Smart App. I have been able to use this app in the past to scan and save photos on my computer, just as recently as a few days before I started having this issue.   I have an HP Color Laserjet M281cdw. When I click the scan button, the app says it’s scanning, but no image appears after scanning.  I am able to scan the images in using other scanning software,  so it doesn’t seem to be an issue with the printer/scanner.  I’ve tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, I’ve deleted and reinstalled the printer, I’ve completely unplugged the printer and let it sit for a few minutes, the same issue occurs.  I even tried scanning the image in with HP Smart App on a different computer connected to the printer, same issue there too.  I’m not happy with the quality of the images I am scanning using the other software (HP Scan and Capture), the pictures are being compressed too much. I feel the HP Smart App is much better for my needs and would really like to get it to work again.  Thank you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you facing this issue after an update?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on your own?

 

Let's update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m280-m281-multifunction-printer-series/14...

 

Restart the printer try to scan.

 

If the issue persists, uninstall the app from your Windows 10 device through the All Apps list.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Apps & features.

  2. Click HP Smart in the list of apps, and then click Uninstall.
