HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

Printing fine after upgrading to Mac OS Sonoma14.1.1 but now the scanner won't connect. I have installed all the latest drivers & software and Image Capture it still can't find it when I try to scan. Wasted 2 hours trying to figure it out. Thanks.

Hi @norcal1976,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 scanner after upgrading to macOS Sonoma 14.1.1. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Restart Your Printer and Mac:

  • Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your Mac.

Check Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  • Make sure all cables are securely connected.

Update Drivers:

  • Confirm that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers compatible with macOS Sonoma 14.1.1.

Reset Printing System:

  • Go to "System Preferences" on your Mac.
  • Select "Printers & Scanners."
  • Right-click on the printer in the list and choose "Reset printing system."
  • Confirm the action and restart your Mac.
  • Re-add your printer and check if the scanner is now detected.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Make sure there are no conflicting software or third-party applications that might interfere with the scanner.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on your Mac and check if it recognizes your printer's scanner. This app often provides additional functionalities beyond basic drivers.

Check Image Capture Settings:

  • Open "Image Capture" on your Mac.
  • In the top left corner, check if your printer is listed in the "Devices" menu.
  • If not, try clicking on "Show Details" to reveal more options.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Check your firewall or antivirus settings to ensure they are not blocking the scanner functionality.

Check System Logs:

  • Review system logs for any error messages related to the scanner. Open the "Console" application on your Mac and look for relevant entries.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
