I am using a MacBook Pro running Ventura OS (13.6.6 OS build) and cannot identify or scan using my InkJet 7740 printer. I have updated my drivers and still unable to use the HP Utility or Easy Scan Apps.

Hi @dailight,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Having trouble with printer connectivity can be frustrating, but let's troubleshoot this. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.

  • Check Printer Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your MacBook Pro and turned on. If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook.
  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix connectivity issues. Try restarting both your MacBook Pro and your printer.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues.
  • Check Printer Settings: Go to System Preferences on your MacBook Pro, then select Printers & Scanners. Make sure your printer is listed there. If it's not, try adding it by clicking the "+" button.
  • Reset Printing System: If your printer is listed in Printers & Scanners but still not working, you can try resetting the printing system. To do this, right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers and select "Reset printing system." Note that this will remove all printers from your list, so you'll need to add them again afterward.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Even though you mentioned updating drivers, sometimes a reinstall can help. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Check Firewall Settings: Sometimes, firewall settings can block communication between your MacBook Pro and the printer. Make sure your firewall settings allow communication with your printer.
  • Try Different Software: If HP Utility and Easy Scan aren't working, try using different scanning software such as Image Capture, which is built into macOS. You can find it in the Applications folder.

By going through these steps, you should hopefully be able to identify and resolve the issue with your InkJet 7740 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
