I have a brand new MFP 4101 used in a home office.

I have tried all of the suggestions, accessed my printer over its IP address and there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the requirement for authentication to scan to email, scan to netwcannot have blank passwordcannot have blank passwordguest access is checked yet password has to be entered on printerguest access is checked yet password has to be entered on printerork etc.

The instructions state you can have a blank admin password, this is FALSE, a 10 digit password it required.

On user access, there is no obvious way to remove authentication for guests; the access is checked but users still have to enter the code on the tiny digital panel on the printer.

This is a terrible expereince, might cause me to return the printer, WHY MAKE THIS SO DIFFICULT HP?

I will try to clarify a few things. You are correct that you must have an Admin password on the EWS of the printer. There is NO way around that. That password has nothing to do with authentication requirements for scan to folder or scan to email. Those authentication requirements are the same authentication requirements you would have to log into a mail server using a client like Outlook and an current OS requires authentication to access network shares used for scan to folder. In the case of using a folder on your workstation to scan to the credentials would be as follows:

Domain - network name of the computer containing the folder

User name -- the login name of that computer

Password - the password you use with the above user name to login to your computer.

If you save the login credentials they only have to be typed when setting them up. Then anyone can use the created scan to folder shortcut to save documents.

If you find the information provided useful or solves your problems, help other users find the solution easier by marking my post as an accepted solution. Clicking "yes" on "was this reply helpful" also increases the chances that this solution will help others.

I see that my previous reply never went thru.

I am an IT professional and am fully aware that the authentication in the config to scan to email is required. I have already forwarded the scanned email to a proxy server and then back to me.

What is very annoying is that the admin password to access the admin setting (a 6 digit pin) must be entered AT THE PRINTER) for ANY user to scan and send an email.

The access settings don't allow this requirement to be avoided. The only way is to change the settings that allow all users to be admins, a checkbox at the bottom). This is not an issue for me as a home office, but there really should be a way to allow all users to access functions without the 6 digit pin every time on a 3" wide interface) but not give them all admin controls.

Really bad setup
