Odd problem.   Printer prints fine from computer (and scans perfectly), but copy function produces very light, all but unreadable copies.  Have tried all the suggestions, but still can't copy.  Much thanks

@drandcpa, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP printer prints and scans fine, but the copy function produces very light or unreadable output. That’s definitely frustrating, but I’ll guide you through the most effective steps to resolve this.

Check the Scanner Glass

  • Make sure the scanner glass is clean. Even a small smudge or dust can affect copy quality.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner. Avoid spraying directly on the glass.

Use the Correct Copy Settings

  • On the printer control panel, go to Copy > Settings.
  • Adjust the contrast or darkness setting to a higher level.
  • If available, set the paper type to match what you're using (e.g., Plain, Photo, etc.).

Update Firmware

  • Outdated firmware can cause copy issues. Visit the HP support site to check for updates: Official HP® Support

Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer while it’s on.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
  • Try copying again.

Perform a Copy Test in Bypass Mode (if available)

  • Some HP printers allow you to bypass internal settings by copying with the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) instead of the flatbed, or vice versa. Try both methods.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the issue persists only during copying (not scanning or printing), the scanner light or sensor may be faulty. In that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
