HP Envy 5530 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 5530 all-in-one printer does not have the add + pages icon to allow me to scan several pages into one file.  I have also downloaded the full software and fixes from HP's website today, 5/16/2018 and they did not help.

I also downloaded an HP Scan Extender application that I read about on the forum as a possible solution and the add pages button is always grayed out!  Why is this happening?  I got a new computer with Windows 10 in 12/2016 after I purchased this printer in 2013.

I also tried logging into Web Services and this does not have this option either.  Is something in Windows 10 preventing me from doing this?  I don't understand why nothing I tried has fixed this issue.

Can someone help?  Thanks.

I just verified on my HP 6978.   600 dpi will not show the + add pages.

Setting it to 300 dpi, shows the +add pages.  You are doing a PDF right?

Hummm should work.  Make sure you have 300 dpi set and not higher.  Now try with HP Scan Extended.

Thank you but I have it set on 600 dpi.  I also tried changing it to Everyday Scan just now and changing it to 600 from 200 and that did not work either in the HP Scan Extended app.

The user guide was no help since it just told me to use the software on the computer instead of using the scan button on the printer itself, and I have read through several suggestions on Google and this forum.  Doesn't make sense why the add pages button is blocked on the Scan Extended app.

You are correct.  300 dpi did work in the PDF mode and thank you so much!

I wonder why higher dpi's will not work like I wanted to use, but it appears that I can only use 300 dpi in this app to get it to work.

Make searchable PDFs scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/

NAPS2 also allows you to:

  1. Maximize and resize the scanning screen on your computer.
  2. Scan over 300 ppi from the Glass or ADF.
  3. Save multiple pages (over 300 ppi) to one PDF file.

Let us know.

Sorry in your previous post I should have read more closely that you did state not to set it higher than 300 dpi.  I will also try your very helpful suggestion about downloading NAPS2 software and would love to make my PDFs searchable.

I am trying to save on filing so much paper and just beginning to scan docs.

Thanks again for your valuable help and time.  Take care!
