Hi,

I have an 6 years old HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw printer/fax machine, and I have an issue to receive fax from a particular sender. The fax log report shows Comm Error. I also noticed that when that particular sender sent fax to my machine, the HP fax/printer detects the ring, it then stops and restarts the machine itself.

Can anyone help me to fix this issue?

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw cannot receive faxes and is showing a communication error, there could be several possible reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

 

  • Check the phone line: Make sure that the phone line is properly connected to the printer and is working correctly. Try to plug in a phone to the same phone line and check if there is a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, there may be a problem with the phone line.
  • Check for interference: Make sure that there are no other devices that could be interfering with the phone line, such as a cordless phone or a fax machine. Disconnect all other devices from the phone line and try to receive a fax again.
  • Check fax settings: Make sure that the fax settings on the printer are configured correctly. Check the fax header, resolution, and other settings to make sure that they are set up properly.
  • Update firmware: Check if there is an updated firmware version available for your printer. Updating the firmware may help to resolve any issues with the printer's communication.
  • Reset the printer: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This can be done by accessing the printer's menu and selecting the "Restore Defaults" option.
