Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

macOS 12.0 Monterey

I update the printer FW. I can scan from HP Smart (but sorry, not going to use that going forward...it's utterly horrible software). Want/need to use Image Capture to scan. The 9015 appears in the device list when I start Image Capture as a shared device. But when I try to use it, after a Waiting for scanner.. message, I get an error message that says "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345).

 

Help please.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

 

I see that you are facing issues with your HP Printer scanning using Image Capture.

 

Image Capture may not be compatible with this printer.

 

I suggest that you update the firmware and then scan using HP smart app.

  

Please download and install the firmware update on the computer connected to the printer from this Link 


You may also refer to this document to know how to update the firmware.
