Can any MacBook Air/HP Printer & Scanner users out there advise?

I cannot scan documents to PDF. My instructions are ignored! A JPEG is created, no matter what. The JPEG can afterwards be exported to PDF, but this can be time-consuming if ever I have to do a lot of scanning.

My printer is an HP Officejet J4580 All-in-one. Technical advice would be very welcome.

To better assist you - Are you trying to scan from HP Easy Scan or Image Capture?
