M281
macOS 10.14 Mojave

PART ONE:  Network folder is on my Mac on my local network.

Short Story:  followed instructions, Test said working OK, but attempts to Scan to Network Folder fail.

Details:

  1. I'm setting up Scan to Network Folder for first time.   The Destination Folder  is on my Mac, on my local area network.
  2. The Test function on the HP Utility says this is configured correctly - OK.
  3. On the M281 Control Screen, I select Scan to Network Folder and see Destination Folder  and select it.
  4. I press Scan.
  5. M281 Control Screen says Connecting to Destination Folder
  6. Watching the Destination Folder on Mac, I see filename "Scan.pdf"  for about a second, then it disappears
    1. Clicking on it during that second gives error message Corrupt File, cannot open
  7. I hear M281 complete the scan
  8. Error message appears on M281:
    1. Cannot write to Destination Folder
    2. Destination folder is read only, has the wrong permissions, or is no longer available
  9. I recheck Destination Folder .
    1. The folder permissions remain unchanged since the successful Test
    2. Folder permissions are confirmed as Read & Write
    3. Sharing permissions under "system prefs / sharing" on Mac are confirmed as Read & Write
  10. I tear a few hairs out and go back to Step 1
    1. along the way, I also try rebooting the printer, to no avail.
    2. quirks:  When the printer reboots, the HP Utility loses its connection to the printer (understandably), but:
      1. At some point, I reinitiated the HP Utility's connection to the printer, and it unexpectedly caused the printer to reboot (but not every time I tried this).
      2. One of the reboots also brought up an error code on the printer Control Screen - I think it was Service Code 79 Restart - and then it re-rebooted.

PART TWO:  Can I scan to a folder on my iCloud account?  I do not know what to use for the network address.  I figured I needed to get it working locally before I pursued this.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer help!

Hi,

Install the latest firmware below and let me know the results, I believe it should resolve the problem due to including the following fix:

  • Fixed an issue in macOS High Sierra and later where Scan to Network folder would not scan above 75 ppi.
